Financial Assistance Grants for Autism Families: Ensuring Access to Essential Support
At the Savannah and Goose Foundation, we recognize the substantial financial challenges faced by families raising children with autism. The costs of essential services, including therapy, sensory and medical equipment, diapers, sensory-friendly clothing, evaluations, and family therapy/counseling, can often be overwhelming.
The Cost of Essential Services
According to data from FAIR Health Inc. (2021), the average costs of common autism services in the U.S. are as follows:
- Adaptive behavior – $82.25
- Developmental screening – $165.95
- Emergency department – $1,397.22
- Physical therapy – $74.99
- Psychiatry – $253.40
- Speech/Language – $174.80
- Therapeutic behavioral – $175.44
For instance, the cost of speech therapy alone can amount to $348 a week, totaling $1,392 a month, and a substantial $16,704 annually. These services are not merely expenses but integral to the well-being and progress of children with autism.
